The antibiotic vancomycin inhibits proper cell wall synthesis of bacteria

Vancomycin, a tricyclic glycosylated peptide, binds to the peptide chains of a peptidoglycane. Thus, the D-alanyl-D-lactate ligase (blue) cannot build up the bacterial wall, leading to the death of the bacterium. Source: PDB entry 1e4e.
